Football Intercultural Plan- Open day consultation

The Football Association of Ireland is producing a plan for the Intercultural Programme which aims to increase the activity and involvement of people of all cultures within Irish football. Further to this there is an open day consultation at the Mont Clare Hotel, Merrion Square, Dublin 2 at 11am on Saturday, 24th February, 2007. The purpose of the consultation is to assess the current situation regarding people from minority ethnic backgrounds access mainstream structures within Irish football. To identify if there are barriers and provide solutions to overcome such barriers.The plan will be a plan for the FAI overall and as such will impact at all levels within Irish football from school and junior football to Eircom League of Ireland, international level and also to administrative aspects of the game.Recognisting that while sport and football in particular has great potential as a vehicle to intercultural activity and integration as a consequence there are questions to consider.How can we increase support of immigrants for Irish clubs?How can we increase participation of immigrants within Irish clubs at all levels?What are the barriers to participation?What are the barriers to support?What are the solutions?How can football help immigrants?If your are interested please contact des.tomlinson@fai.ie to register.
