Uniting clubs with communities

Show Racism the Red Card marked the Chinese New Year festivities with two highly successful events. Together with the Chinese Shining Emerald, we formed the Chinese Irish Sports and Cultural Association to host an International Table Tennis Tournament on Sunday February 3rd, 2008.It was hosted in partnership with Dublin City Council Sports Development unit and the Leinster Table Tennis League. More than 80 people participated in the tournament including 40 from China, alongside others from at least 10 other countries.Participants in this table tennis tournament turned up at bang on 9am on a Sunday morning! The Leinster Table Tennis League organised the logistics of the competition, while Dublin City Council Sports Development Unit presented trophies and t-shirts. Show Racism the Red Card and the Chinese Shining Emerald were responsible for promoting the tournament. For the Table Tennis League it was an opportunity to reach out to the immigrant community for potential new club members, while for immigrants it served as an opportunity to find out about clubs in the Dublin area.We also co-hosted on February 10th, a Badminton Competition at which Yuan Bing (Ireland’s Number one Badminton player) presided over awards.
