A hugely successful basketball tournament took place on Sunday 18th January in the impressive Ballyfermot Leisure Centre. Nearly 400 attended in total. It was organised by Basketball Ireland with support from Dublin City Council, Show Racism the Red Card and Chinese Community.The emphasis of the tournament was on friendly participation in basketball, China’s most popular sport, to mark the new year. 24 teams participated in the adult tournament, 6 in the Under 18s event and more than 100 children participated in the coaching session delivered by Basketball Ireland. Of the 24 adult teams, 5 were from the Chinese community and 5from the Lithuanian. The rest represented a range of nationalities including a Polish team and a number of company teams from State Street bank and Griffith College Dublin as well as locally based teams.Each of the 100 plus children received a t-shirt on the day. The t- shirt was the result of a art & design competition involving hundred of entries from local schools. The t-shirt was designed by Patrick Carney. 3rd Class.
