European Week against Racism Soccer blitz

EUROPEAN WEEK AGAINST RACISM SOCCER BLITZ MARCH 2009

Integration is one of the most important challenges faced by South Dublin County Council over the next few years.

One of the main objectives of the Council will be to facilitate initiatives to promote integration in the county and it is one of the reasons why we organised the soccer blitz. The soccer blitz was about having fun whilst being conscious of the need to promote cultural integration and social inclusion through sport. It is about participation together!

As part of the programme a 90 minute anti racism work shop was delivered to all schools involved. The aim of the workshop was to highlight issues around the area of racism in sport and to raise awareness on this important issue. The workshop was delivered prior to the tournament by the Football in the Community Development Officer.

The primary schools that participated included Sacred Heart National School, Sruleen Clondalkin, St. Bernadette’s National School, Clondalkin, Holy Rosary Ballcragh, John the Evangalist Adamstown, Scoil Mhuire Ballyboden, Arch Bishop Ryan National School Lucan, St. Mary’s Greenhills Road, Divine Word National School Ratharnham, and Ballyroan National School (overall winner). The Secondary Schools included Lucan Community College, St. Colmcilles Community School Knocklyon ( overall winner) Moyle Park Clondalkin, Old Bawn Community School, Firhouse Community School, St. MacDara’s Community School and St Kevins Community College.
