Remember Brendan Archbold

It is with great sadness that we learned today of the passing of Brendan Archbold last night. Brendan as an important supporter of Show Racism the Red Card. He served for a number of years as a member of our board of directors. He helped get us started through securing support of his trade union Mandate, in a meaningful way, with money.  This enabled us to organised our very first public event.Brendan is best remembered and rightly so for his work as an official with the bar and retail workers in Mandate trade union. In particular, he was well known as the official working to support the Dunnes Stores strikers in the 1980s.  The strike was to defend workers sacked for implementing the union policy to boycott goods from apartheid South Africa. The strikers and Brendan were recognised by South Africa and Brendan travelled with them to the funeral of Neslon Mandela last year.Brendan was also a keen football supporter. He supported both Ireland and Shelbourne FC. We extend our condolences to Rosaleen and all the family.http://mandate.ie/News/Mandate/1084/mandate-deeply-saddened-by-the-passing-of-brendan-archbold.aspx
