Clubs take action against racism for FARE fortnight

The number of grassroots clubs involved in taking action during the Football Against Racism in Europe fortnight (FARE) has more than doubled this year.  44 grassroots sent back expressions of interest forms to Show Racism the Red Card.  In addition, there was an increase in the number of schools visited by the FAI this year to promote the anti-racism message.Below are some of the pictures we are have received so far.  More are to come as the fortnight of action continues until 20th October.  Some of the clubs got other clubs to join them in their activities to mark the FARE Fortnight.Activities included a champions league style handshake at the start of the game with an exchange of the Show Racism the Red Card wristbands. Help us tackle racism!!

Help us tackle racism!It’s a busy time for us at Show Racism the Red Card.  We have a lot of school visits and also workshops with trainee teachers coming up.   We want you to help us tackle racism.  If you are not involved in Football fortnight against racism, then you can help raise funds through our Wear Red Day or spread the message with our Creative Competition.Football Against Racism in Europe 6-20th October carew-park-fc-1In addition, we are also in the middle of the Football Against Racism in Europe Fortnight of Action 6th – 20th October.  We have 45 grassroots clubs taking part in SRTRC actions.  Also, Development Officers from the FAI are taking the SRTRC message to a 120 schools around Ireland.  Between schools and clubs, we are delivering the anti racism message to over 8,000 young people in just two weeks.

Wear Red Daya3_posterShow Racism the Red Card Wear Red Day is on Friday 25th November.  In school, college, work or wherever you are, we are inviting you to Wear Red on this day.  The aim is to raise awareness and much needed funds to help the work of Show Racism the Red Card.You can register online for a fundraising pack at www.theredcard.ie/wearredday.phpThe fundraising pack will include leaflets, red cards, posters, stickers, template press releases and more.

Anti Racism Creative Competition 2017 creative_competition2017_poster3We are now open for registration to participate in the 8th annual anti racism Creative Competition of Show Racism the Red Card.  Once a teacher/ youth worker registers, we send our DVD education pack for free.  The education pack helps with the teaching of anti-racism.  Also, SRTRC can come to the school or youth service involved to deliver a workshop to help develop understanding.  Once young people have engaged in anti racism education, they are then invited to produce their won anti-racism action or creation.To get involved, a teacher/ youth worker needs to register here www.theredcard.ie/competition.php

Invite Show Racism the Red Card in your school

EDUCATION WORKSHOPS AND AMBASSADORS PROGRAMME –Show Racism the Red Card deliver interactive anti-racism workshops to schools, Youthreach programmes and youth groups in venues up and down the country.  We work predominantly with ages 10-15 years but can tailor our workshop to meet the needs of other groups too.Our workshops involve learning around: – What is racism? – Where does racism come from? – How does racism happen? – Racism and its consequences and – Responding to racism.  Workshops encourage participants to think critically and challenge what they see and hear from other sources.Our ‘Ambassador Sessions’ involve a combination of both the education workshop and fun coaching activities led by one of our sporting ambassadors and concludes with a quiz and visit from our mascot ‘Jeff the Ref’.Griffith Barracks ETNS – ‘It was pitched really well for their age group and the children loved the team building and coaching games.  We will certainly recommend to other schools’ Contact us to book a workshop/ ambassador sessionsara@theredcard.ie Continue reading

Fundraising and altruism is the motive

A new online platform has been launched to facilitate fundraising.  It is called Altruism Ireland.  Only registered charities can be the beneficiaries, which is different from other fundraising websites.  Also, altruism do not take a commission on donations, unlike other websites, and Altruism Ireland is a charity itself. Join the SRTRC Club Welcome

We are inviting you to get involved in the Club Welcome programme.Club Welcome poster finishedClub Welcome is a new initiative of Show Racism the Red Card.  It is set up to increase participation in sport for those from refugee backgrounds in Ireland.It is not easy for children from asylum seeking/ refugee backgrounds to become involved in sport for many reasons.We are calling for expressions of interest in our Club Welcome programme.  The Club Welcome is a structured programme to support clubs to open up to a new group and be recognised for that too.Expressions of interest can come from individuals or clubs or any sport.

Tackling Racism in Europe

Show Racism the Red Card Ireland met with international partners as part of an Erasmus + Strategic Partnership programme in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.  It was the second of five international meetings over the course of two years from 2015-2017.  The programme involves us working with partners to deliver anti racism education to teachers and to share and learn from the practice of others.
